My reading in 2011 was very rewarding! I had the opportunity to read many books and gained much from each one. Here are a few of the books that I read this year. They are given in no particular order.
Entreleadership by Dave Ramsey.
This should be required reading for all leaders! Dave always has some good things to say and enjoyed reading his leadership offering. Our Lake City Staff is working through the book together and learning much. I highly recommend it.
Redemption by Mike Wilkerson. This excellent book shows how the Exodus of the Hebrews foreshadows our redemption. Really enjoyed this one. In fact, I was so touched by this one that I used it as a catalyst for a Sermon Series I taught at The Orchard this year.
Tribes by Seth Godin. Excellent book that helps us understand branding and leadership.
The Secret by Ken Blanchard. Blanchard is always a good source for leadership material. This book teaches leadership principles in the form of a story. Good read.
It by Craig Groeschel. You have to read It in order to find out what “it” is! Recommended by one of our students, so I read it.
Church Awakening by Chuck Swindoll. Swindoll is one of my all time favorite authors. I’ve read most of his books and was not disappointed by this one. I was challenged with the thought of the ease of the church drifting off course. It helped me to see the need for working hard to “Stay the Course.” This one also led to a sermon series.
Multi Site Churches by Scott McConnell. The Orchard added an off site campus in 2011 in Live Oak, FL. This book helped so much in the planning, strategy, and launch of this first satellite campus.
The God You Can Know by Dan DeHaan. Great book dealing with an important subject, “Knowing God.”
Agape Road by Bob Mumford. Probably one of the most important books I read. Mumford helps us understand what it means to have intimacy with the Father. He teaches us to recognize which of several roads we are currently on and which road we NEED to be on…the road that leads to intimacy with the Father. A must read!
Ordering Your Private World by Gordon MacDonald. Probably the most helpful book I read this year. It just hit the mark in my life right now! MacDonald addresses the importance of keeping your private world in “order.” It helped me understand the need for margin, organization, planning, etc. in my private life. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is busy!
Margin by Richard Swensen. This is a follow-up to Ordering your private World and was read in conjunction with a New Year’s series called “Margin.”
Lone Surivor by Marcus Luttrell. This was my favorite book in 2011! I read this one while on vacation at the beach. Luttrell is a Navy Seal who tells the story of his survival in Afghanistan. Action packed, patriotic, and a great read!
Other books were enjoyed as well, but these are some of the ones I enjoyed the most.
Blessings,
Pastor Eddie
